PennDOT issues sign ban reminder
PennDOT is reminding the community that outdoor advertising signage is not permitted on state highway property, including right-of-way areas.
Federal regulations and state law prohibit certain advertising signage including, but not limited to, yard sale, political, Realtor, business and event signage.
Signs may not be attached to light, signal or utility poles, guide rails or traffic signs.
PennDOT said the prohibition on signs protects motorists by reducing roadway distractions and improving sight distance at intersections.
Signs removed by PennDOT staff are stored at the nearest PennDOT maintenance office for 30 days to allow the owners to pick them up. The signs are then discarded.
