Charles Schramm
Charles W. “Uncle Babe” Schramm, 93, of Butler, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, while under the care of the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center-University Drive, with his son by his side.
Born Dec. 30, 1928, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Raymond Charles and Amelia Klenk Schramm.
In the late years of the Depression era, Chuck, then a youth, worked odd jobs to help support his family, including delivering newspapers and heating coal and selling Christmas trees, under the guidance of family friend and role model, Vic Steigerwald, local youth supporter.
Mr. Schramm was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War. Following his military service, he was employed by the United States Postal Service on the North Side of Pittsburgh. Beginning as a carrier and progressing to delivering Parcel Post in Oakland, Chuck earned numerous awards for attendance and safety during his career of over 35 years, including a million miles accident free. He was a 50-plus year member of Avalon Lodge, 657 F&AM. He will be remembered as a hard worker and an enthusiastic gardener. He also enjoyed creating lavish holiday displays. He will be fondly remembered and lovingly missed.
Chuck leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Charles R. (Rebecca Neely) Schramm of Harmony; his daughter, Ranae (Joe) Disalvo of Cranberry Township; his grandson, Nicolas Disalvo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lorraine Coleman Schramm, whom he married on Oct. 27, 1962, and who passed away on May 3, 2014; his sisters, Betty Schattauer and Dorothy Rupp; his brothers, Jack Schramm and Edward Schramm; his stepbrother, James McKenzie; and a grandson, Daniel DeNelle.
SCHRAMM — Friends of Charles W. “Uncle Babe” Schramm, who died Thursday, June 2, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Reid Moon officiating.
Chuck will be laid to rest with military honors at Calvary Cemetery in Butler.
