Judy Beisswenger

Beisswenger

Our dear mother, Judy (Judith Anderson Freund) Beisswenger, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the age of 78. She was a wonderful woman with many friends in the Pittsburgh area and in Nashville, Tenn.

Judy was born July 2, 1943, the daughter of Ernie and Doris Anderson of McKeesport, and is survived by her siblings, David Anderson of St. Augustine, Fla., and Joan (Sam) Patterson of Lancaster, Pa.

Judy graduated from McKeesport High School; Slippery Rock State College, where she was a founding sister of the Delta Zeta sorority; and Penn State University. She taught and substituted in business and English at McKeesport High School for many years. Judy married fellow teacher John Freund in 1966 and is survived by their four children and grandchildren, Carol (Rick) Taylor (Samuel, Amanda, and Ruby), of Nashville, Tenn., David (Suzanne) Freund (Tarrah, Zachary, and Robyn) of Butler, John (Janice) Freund of Raleigh, N.C., and Ruth (Jason) Bacher (Aubriella and Madilynne) of Butler. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was proud to serve as president of the Women’s Association of the Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh. She worked very hard on the development of the scholarship fund.

In 2005 Judy married Don Beisswenger in Nashville. She became very involved in advocacy for the homeless, volunteered for over 10 years at Vanderbilt 100 Oaks and was pleased to serve on the advisory board of Vanderbilt Hospital. Judy greatly loved her stepchildren, grandchildren, and their families. Judy is survived by Peter (Sophia) Beisswenger of Valejo, Calif., Drew (Nancy) Beisswenger (Helen) of Belle Vista, Ariz., Tom (Mary) Beisswenger (Sara) of Athens, Ga., Philip (Bacilia) Beisswenger (Daniel, Matthew, Manuel, and Estefana) of Audubon, Iowa, Suzanne (Mitch) Gault (Emily and Parker) of Simpsonville, S.C., and Rebecca Duval (Dylan and Rachel) of Nashville, Tenn.

Judy was raised in the Tabor Lutheran Church of McKeesport and grew to have great faith and love her Swedish heritage. She served on the board of deacons at Plum Creek Presbyterian Church, and later in Nashville enjoyed fellowship in the Presbyterian PCUSA Church and especially the Edgehill Methodist community.

Her family would like to thank Lenny Pintell for his love and care in recent years.
