SRU baseball season ended

WEST CHESTER — Slippery Rock University’s baseball season ended Thursday with a 2-1 loss to the host team in a double-elimination NCAA Regional at West Chester’s Serpico Field.

Slippery Rock High School graduate Ricky Mineo was on the wrong end of the pitching duel. He allowed only two runs on three hits through seven innings, striking out four. Mineo fell to 6-4 on the season.

Connor Hamilton broke SRU’s single-season home run record by clubbing is 17th in the fourth inning for The Rock’s lone run.

Braeden Fausnaught struck out 12 over seven innings to get the win for West Chester (30-11).

SRU ends its season with a 33-18 record, the program’s highest win total since 2009.

Slippery Rock dropped its first game of the tournament, 10-2, to Seton Hill earlier Thursday. Devin Dunn (9-2) took the loss, allowing 12 hits and four walks in 4.2 innings pitched.

Alex Robenolt had a double and single, Abraham Mow a pair of singles and Joel Spishock a two-run single for The Rock.
