Virginia L. Smith, 80, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Butler, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, May 9, 2022.

Virginia was a sister to eight, a mother of two, grandmother of six, and great- grandmother of five (soon to be six).

She was born in Butler County, on Sept. 21, 1941, the daughter of Anna Margaret Beck (formerly Wise) and George Harold Beck.

She married Charles D. Smith in 1960, and he went on to work for the railroad in Cleveland, Ohio, where they raised two boys before retiring to Columbiana, Ohio, in the 1990s.

Virginia loved to gather family and friends, especially for the holidays. She was a kind-hearted woman, with a recognizable voice and one-of-a-kind laugh. She welcomed her friends as family, and took many trips to places like Las Vegas and California before her stroke in 2006, which left her with limited mobility and speech. Despite this, Virginia’s spirits remained high. Her favorite phrase later in life was “I’m okay,” said with a cheerful and lovable laugh. Even when she was feeling a little down, she would continue to grace those around her with her happy demeanor, friendly smile and lovable laugh. She was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Drew (Vicky) Smith of Euclid, Ohio, and Tim (Rita) Smith of Eastlake, Ohio; her grandchildren, Alicia (Kyle) McKrill, Samatha (Chip) Flynn, Amanda (James) Hamrle, Preston Smith, Adam (Kara) Smith and Cassandra Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Isabella, age 13, Charles and Kaiden, both age 4, and Jaxson and Karter, both age 2.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

SMITH — A memorial service for Virginia L. Smith, who died Monday, May 9, 2022, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Pastor Jared Townley will officiate.
