BC3 softball ends season

The Butler County Community College softball team saw its season come to an end with a pair of losses to Monroe College (N.Y.) at Laura Doerr Park Friday afternoon.

The teams met for a best-of-three series to decide who would represent the Northeast District at the NJCAA tournament, scheduled later this month in Syracuse.

The Pioneers dropped decisions of 9-1 and 18-7. They trailed the first game, 2-1, until Monroe plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Lauren Hesidenz singled twice and drove in BC3’s lone run in the defeat.

Bailey Rickenbrode shouldered the loss in the circle, striking out four and walking two in four innings of work.

The Pioneers tied the second game at four with a four-run second inning, but Monroe erupted again with five runs in the next half-inning to take control.

Olivia Vissari hit two home runs and drove in six for BC3. Amanda Dailey singled twice and scored a run while Casey Kretzer had a base hit and RBI.

Kristen Woolstrum took the loss with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings.

The Pioneers finish the season with an overall record of 12-6.
