Walter Dunmyre

Dunmyre

Walter K. Dunmyre, 86, of Butler, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Walter was born in Bradys Bend on Nov. 21, 1935, and was the son of the late James and Julia (Zamberlan) Dunmyre. He resided most of his life in Bradys Bend, where his favorite pastimes were boating on the Allegheny River and hunting deer and small game.

After graduating from East Brady High School in 1953, he worked various jobs loading limestone barges, working for a plaster contractor and at C.A. Snyder Pontiac garage in Butler. In 1955, Walter started at Magnetics in East Butler, where he was employed for 11 years, including two years of service in the U.S. Marines as a small-arms instructor. In 1966 he was hired at the Armco Steel Plant, where he worked until his retirement from the silicon department in 1996. After retiring, Walt was employed for 20 years as a school bus driver for Shriver Bus Company in Armstrong County, and later for Valley Lines Bus Company after moving to Butler.

Walter married Mary Ann Angert in 1970. Using their timeshare, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

Walter’s granddaughter, Julia, and stepgrandson, Trae, brought much joy to “papa’s” life, and he was a devoted father to his daughter, Allison.

Walter was a member of the Bantam Marine Corps league in Butler, St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend, and All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church in Meridian, after moving to Butler in 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Allison (Mike) Sloan; his granddaughter, Julia Bonetti; and stepgrandson, Trae Sloan; his sister-in-law, Jean Dunmyre of Clarion; and many nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by an older brother, James Ervin Dunmyre; his sisters, Dorothy Lekas of Reno, Nev., and Shirley Heginbotham of East Brady; and two nephews, Tom Angert and Richard Heginbotham.

A special thank you to Walt’s buddies for their phone calls that made his day.
