John Winter Sr.
John David “Dave” Winter Sr., 71, of New Sewickley Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2022, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born Sept. 25, 1950, the son of John B. “Jack” and Margaret (Hayduk) Winter.
He was the beloved husband of Susan (Gensler) Winter, whom he married on Sept. 23, 1983; loving father of J.D. Jr. (Angie) Winter, and Beth Winter; pappy of Jack; and the brother of Patricia (Rich) Helbig and Robert Winter.
Dave is also survived by his canine companions, Remy, Bentley and Audi, and feline friend, Daisy. Dave also had many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Ben Avon, Dave raced Motocross and loved playing football in high school.
Professionally, Dave spent his career as a piping specialist, where his passion for engineering was cultivated. Dave used his meticulous attention to detail to build the family hunting cabin, construct additions to the longtime home in Cranberry Township and, together with his wife Susan, build in its entirety their lovely home in New Sewickley.
Dave was an avid hunter and a lifetime member at Millvale Sportsmen’s Club, where he joined his friends every week in shooting and socializing. He also loved sports, especially watching the Steelers, Penguins and Penn State football.
WINTER — Family and friends of John David “Dave” Winter Sr., who died Sunday, May 1, 2022, are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Church, with the Rev. David Egan officiating.
Interment will follow at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery, Ross Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Dave’s name to Hillman Cancer Center or to Good Samaritan Hospice.
