Raymond “Ray” Oesterling, 78, of Butler, died after a short illness on April 28, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Ray was born July 2, 1943, in Butler. He was the son of the late Gene and Betty Oesterling of Butler.

He worked at Pullman Standard Railroad Company, and as a truck driver for several companies, prior to his retirement.

He married Judy Denny in 1965, and they celebrated 56 years together.

He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Happy Hunters Sportsman’s Club, and was in the Butler County Horseshoe Hall of Fame.

Ray was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and watching wildlife, especially birds from his back porch where he spent many hours. He loved going to his “Camp Evergreen” in Emporium, Pa., working crossword puzzles, and creating coloring book masterpieces.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Oesterling; a daughter, Denise (Dave) Oesterling of Butler; a daughter, Lorain (Joseph) Shimkus of Cranberry Township; a son, Raymond Jr. of Butler; a granddaughter, Tonya (Garrett) Weitzel; a sister, Lois (Larry) McCall; a sister-in-law, Gayle Oesterling; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Oesterling.

OESTERLING — Friends of Raymond Oesterling Sr., who passed away, Thursday, April 28, 2022, will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with a Christian service beginning at noon at the church. A luncheon will follow.

A private burial will be held.
