SR school board plans $4.8 million construction project
SLIPPERY ROCK — The committee for an estimated $4.8 million project at Slippery Rock Area Elementary is set to meet for the first time this week.
During the Monday night meeting of Slippery Rock Area School Board, board member Mark Taylor announced that contractors and school administration will meet to discuss the mechanical, electric and plumbing updates slated to begin at the school this summer.
According to superintendent Alfonso Angelucci, the project will update the elementary school boilers, heating and air conditioning, and more.
“This is more ‘behind the walls’ work,” he said. “The contractors will all be meeting to make sure everyone is on the same page before moving forward.”
Angelucci also announced a special meeting Thursday where the board will interview five potential candidates for its open board position.
The public is invited to the interview process at 6 p.m. in the Slippery Rock Area Middle School library.
“We’ll ask (candidates) a few questions, and it’s possible we get to name the new member that night,” Angelucci said. “If not that night, we could wait until our meeting May 9.”
The board voted to approve the five-year transportation contract from Student Transportation of America bus company to cover the northern district routes.
The next Slippery Rock Area School Board meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. May 9.
