SRU baseball sweeps Clarion

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s baseball team extended its win streak to nine games Saturday with a 4-2, 16-5 doubleheader sweep of Clarion at Critchfield Park.

The Rock (27-9, 13-7) swept the Golden Eagles by scores of 11-2 and 5-2 Friday at Pullman Park.

Slippery Rock High School graduate Ricky Mineo improved his record to 5-1 with the win in Game 1 Saturday. He allowed one unearned run over six innings, striking out seven and allowing only three hits and one walk. Andy McClymonds struck out two in the seventh to record the save.

SRU has outscored its opponents 62-19 during its winning streak and is now in a three-way tie with Gannon and Mercyhurst for first place in the PSAC West.

Connor Hamilton had four hits in Saturday’s twinbill, including his team-leading 11th home run of the season. Alex Robnenolt had four hits and Joel Spishock belted a pair of home runs. Eddie Morris had three RBI.

Luke Trueman and Devin Dunn both pitched complete games on Friday. Jon Kozarian had three hits and three RBI in the first game and Robenolt had four RBI. Robenolt had three hits in the second game, Morris and Joe Ehland two each.

The Rock hosts Lock Haven in a nine-inning non-conference game at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Critchfield Park.
