Eakin

Bernice Cummings Eakin, 92, of Grove City, passed away at Grove Manor on Tuesday evening, April 19, 2022.

She was born in Grove City, Feb. 9, 1930, and was the daughter to the late George Washington Hancox and Anna Marie Urey Hancox.

She graduated Grove City High School Class of 1948, and married James Cummings a year later. A longtime resident of Wolf Creek Township, she served as the township secretary for many years. She was a member of the East Main Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She also was involved with several local charitable organizations. After Mr. Cummings death, she married Carl Eakin, Harrisville, and became an active member of Harrisville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. Bernice was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star and an active member of Grove City’s White Shrine of Jerusalem 53.

Survivors include three sons, Larry (Deborah) Cummings, Penrose, Colo., Rob Cummings, Lake Latonka, and Bruce (Marcie) Cummings, Grove City; stepson, Steve (Sissy) Eakin, Wilmington, N.C.; stepdaughter, Crystal (Mike) Agostino, Harrisville; and nine grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Grove Manor for the loving and compassionate care Bernie received throughout her residency.

EAKIN — There will be a private family service for Bernice Cummings Eakin, who died Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant, Pa., with the Rev. Willard Morse, officiating.

Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
