Sheriff warns about email scam

Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe is warning residents about an email scam involving package delivery notifications.

A screenshot of a copy of the email reveals that the scammer poses as the U.S. Postal Service and instructs recipients to update their shipping information through a bogus website because it has a package that won’t be delivered unless the shipping information is updated. The scam email is from a clone of the USPS website.

Slupe said there may be a similar scam that uses a fake FedEx website.

“As with anything else, please question and scrutinize unsolicited calls, emails and texts. Scammers will stop at nothing to get your information. Please protect yourself. If you feel you have been scammed and your information somehow compromised, contact your local law enforcement agency,” Slupe said.
