SRU baseball splits 4 with Gannon

SLIPPERY ROCK — Abraham Mow collected five hits in seven at bats Saturdayu— including four runs scored, a home run and two RBI as Slippery Rock University split a baseball doubleheader with Gannon at Critchfield Park.

Gannon won the first game, 7-4, before SRU (18-8, 5-7) picked up a 13-6 triumph in the nightcap.

Mow has 28 homers in his Rock career, tying him for third in program history. Connor Hamilton had three hits in the twinbill, including a homer and three RBI. He leads the team with seven homers and 27 RBI on the season.

Slippery Rock High School graduate Ricky Mineo held Gannon to one run in the first six innings of Game 1 before the Golden Knights (16-9, 7-5) erupted for six runs in the seventh inning to claim the win. Mineo was charged with two of those runs.

Ethan Edkins was the winning pitcher in Game 2, allowing three runs and striking out seven in six innings. Jon Kozarian had two doubles and scored two runs while Luke Trueman had two hits and scored two runs. Koby Bubash hit a two-run triple.

SRU center fielder Joe Ehland went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBI to help The Rock defeat host Gannon, 5-3, in the first game of their doubleheader Friday.

The Golden Knights salvaged a split with an 8-5 victory in Game 2.

SRU starting pitcher Devin Dunn improved his record this season to 5-1 by allowing two unearned runs on five hits in five innings of work. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Reliever Andy McClymonds allowed a run, but also struck out four batters in two innings.

The Rock held a 2-0 lead in the nightcap before Gannon plated six runs — just one earned — in the bottom of the fourth frame off of starter Trueman, who shouldered the loss with five strikeouts and no walks.

Eddie Morris, Alex Robenolt (two doubles) and Hamilton each tallied two hits for SRU (17-7, 4-6), with Morris driving in three runs.

Mars High School graduate and Gannon designated hitter Brandon Wetherholt went 3-for-6 on the day, including a home run.

Slippery Rock hosts Mansfield in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
