SRU splits twinbill

SLIPPERY ROCK — Three Slippery Rock University freshman pitchers combined to pitch six shutout innings before settling for an 8-2 victory over Walsh in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Tuesday at Critchfield Park.

Walsh earned a split with a 13-9 win in Game 2.

Ethan Edkins pitched four scoreless innings and Robert Herr two for SRU (16-6) in the opener. Joe Purcell made his collegiate pitching debut in the seventh and was nicked for two runs.

Joel Spishock had three hits and three RBI to lead The Rock’s 14-hit attack in the opener. Joe Ehland, had four hits in the twinbill and recorded his team-leading sixth stolen base of the year. Connor Hamilton had four hits on the day.

Jon Kozarian contributed two hits and four RBI, including a double and triple. Eddie Morris and Alex Robenolt had three hits, two runs and an RBI each.

SRU returns to PSAC West play Friday with a doubleheader at Gannon.
