John P. Thompson, 83, originally of Meadville, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2022, while at Arden Court, Memory Care Community.

He was the beloved husband for 28 years to Sandra L., and was the son of the late Charles and Katherine Thompson.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis and David Thompson; and he was the widower of Ruthanne (Brunot).

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister, Mary Halstead (widow of David) of Belmont, N.C.

He was the loving father of Charles "Chuck” (Sue), Susan Baker (Stewart), Laura Twerdok (Mike) and John “Andy” (Mikell); and the grandfather of nine, Nicholas, Alexis, Brittany (Phil), John, Steven, Andy Ruthanne, John, David and Joseph; and great-grandfather of Carter.

He was born on June 24, 1938, and grew up in Meadville, where he attended high school, and was a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University.

John served in the U.S. Air Force as a captain from 1961 to 1970.

John retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2001.

He was an active member of St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, Cranberry Township. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

THOMPSON — Family and friends of John P. Thompson, who died Thursday, March 24, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township.

A graveside service with military honors at St. Gregory Cemetery in Zelienople will follow the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice at www.promedica.org/waystogive/hospice-memorial-fund/donate; or St. Ferdinand Church.
