SRU names Christine Karshin as dean of College of Health Professions

Christine Karshin

Slippery Rock University announced Thursday the hiring of Christine Karshin to be dean of the new College of Health Professions.

Karshin is currently the associate dean of Eastern Michigan University’s College of Health and Human Services, and will start her role at SRU on June 21.

The College of Health Professions, SRU’s fifth college, will be established by the start of the fall 2022 semester. It will consist of 10 academic departments and one education center, the Storm Harbor Equestrian Center.

SRU hired John Bonaguro in March 2021 to be the College of Health Professions’ founding dean in a temporary role to lead the launch of the new college. Bonaguro will serve in his capacity until June 30.

“SRU has made a tremendous investment in the development of this college and to have the opportunity to be its first dean is truly remarkable, and I am so excited,” Karshin said. “I have grown a significant amount of respect for the health professions and the academic programs that develop new health professionals because they will be taking care of people in our communities.”
