Man charged in felony DUI stemming from crash

Police said a Bruin man was drunk when he crashed his vehicle Sunday night in Marion Township.

State police arrested and charged Dana E. Martin, 26, with felony DUI as well as multiple summary traffic offenses. Following his arraignment by District Judge Sue Haggerty, Martin was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.

According to charging documents, Butler County 911 dispatched police around 2:36 p.m. Sunday to the 2400 block of West Sunbury Road. Police said they found a black Subaru Impreza with heavy front-end damage as well as a damaged tree on a nearby property.

Police said after speaking with people at the scene, they determined Martin was the driver, although he was not at the scene. Police said Martin has a suspended driver’s license for previous DUI convictions.

According to court records, Martin has three DUI convictions, two in 2017 and one in 2019. Martin also has two pending DUI cases in Butler County Common Pleas Court. Those only will count toward his total if he’s convicted.

Police said they smelled marijuana and open cans of beers in the vehicle.

“It was observed by troopers that there were multiple empty Bush and Budweiser cans,” said the investigating trooper in the affidavit.

Police said they followed footprints leading from the vehicle to a home nearby, where they found Martin and arrested him.

“Martin then began acting irate and verbally resistant with troopers,” police said. “Martin was then placed into a marked unit and became even more irate and was striking the interior of the patrol unit.”

Police said Martin later refused to have his blood tested at the hospital.
