Storm knocks out power to 3,800
Thousands of people throughout Butler County lost power at around 4:15 p.m. Monday when a storm rolled through the area.
The National Weather Service Pittsburgh posted a “special weather statement” at around 3:40 p.m., which said the area from Pleasantville, Pa., to Mannington, W.Va., could experience winds of up to 55 miles per hour until 4:30 p.m. Almost all of Butler County was included in the statement. It advised people within the coverage area to seek shelter in a sturdy structure until at least 4:30 p.m.
West Penn Power reported at 5:45 p.m. that about 3,800 customers were without power, with estimates that it would be restored around 8 p.m.
Butler City and Butler Township were widely affected by outages, but by around 6:45, power had been restored to many customers. At 7:30 p.m., about 1,000 customers in Butler County still had no power, with a majority of outages reported in Buffalo Township, which had abound 250, and Center Township, which had about 150.
A Butler County dispatch officer said the office got 30 to 40 calls around 3:30 p.m., which included calls for downed trees and some vehicle accidents. A crew from Butler Township responded at around 4:15 p.m. to two large trees that fell down on Route 8 near Pittsburgh Road.
