Meredith Miesel
Meredith D. “Sonny” Miesel, 92, formerly of Zelienople, currently residing in Waterford, Mich., passed away on March 2, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Sylvia Miesel of Evans City; his beloved wife of 70 years, Janet; and his son-in-law, Capt. Bartlett L. Clark USN (Ret).
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Clark of Clarkston, Mich.
Sonny enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard in June 1947, and activated in September 1950 during the Korean conflict. He served as sergeant first class in Headquarters Company First Battalion, 112th Infantry, 28th Division. He served in Germany until his discharge in April 1952.
Sonny was active in the Masonic Lodge 429, where he served as Chaplain. He also was a member of the Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, Syria Shrine Center A.A.O.N.M.S. of Cheswick. Sonny was elected and served as captain of the Shrine Patrol in 1995. He was voted Patrolman Of The Year in 1996, and named a Syria Ambassador by Past Potentate William (Digger) Young in 2001.
Active in the Zelienople Fire Department, he served as an officer for 28 years, retiring as assistant chief after 30 years of service. During his service, Sonny taught at the Butler County Fire School, and was past president of the Butler County Fire Chiefs Association.
Always involved in the community, Sonny was a member of the American Legion Post 474, English Lutheran Church (Church Council and Loyal Class), Keenagers of Portersville, Zelienople Historical Society, and AARP Ellwood City Chapter 1756 (Director).
Sonny retired from Robinson Industries in 1992. He then became a funeral assistant for Boylan Funeral Homes, where he worked until 2015.
Lifelong residents of Butler County, Sonny and Janet relocated to Michigan to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bart Clark of Clarkston.
MIESEL ― A memorial service for Meredith D. “Sonny” Miesel, who died Wednesday, March 2, 2022, will be held for both he and Janet at Canterbury-On-The-Lake, Mich., with visitation, memorial and inurnment in their hometown of Zelienople, with dates to be determined.
Interment will be at the Zelienople Community Mausoleum.
