Beverly Watson

Watson

Beverly Anne Watson, 72, a near-lifelong resident of Slippery Rock, passed away peacefully at her Bowie, Md., home on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022.

Born in Slippery Rock on Oct. 10, 1949, Bev was the first child of the late Robert L. "Pete" Watson and Isabel F. Watson (Grossman.)

Bev loved nothing more than to care for and delight others. She was always planning a family gathering, cooking a delicious dinner with vegetables picked from her garden, or expertly wrapping birthday and Christmas gifts with elaborate ribbons. Alongside her sisters, she organized local charitable events, including the Grove City Theatre Arts Guild, and the Backyard Carnival, which raised funding and awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She never hesitated to do anything for anyone or help out in any way she could.

Bev loved travel, especially her yearly vacation to Aruba. Her cooking and baking skills were universally acclaimed, particularly the dozens of cookies she made around the holidays. It was rare to find her without a cup of coffee nearby—where there was coffee, there was also Bev. She loved reading Stephen King novels, listening to the Beatles, and watching movies and classic television series such as “I Love Lucy” and “The Andy Griffith Show.” She appeared at just about every flea market and yard sale in Butler County.

Bev worked as a hairdresser and a nurse's aide among other jobs. She later settled on a career with Sheetz, becoming a familiar face among customers at both the Mercer and Slippery Rock stores. She retired from Sheetz in 2009.

Surviving are three sisters, Linda M. Boyd and her husband, Tom, Judy G. Zulick, and Penny L. David-Covert and her husband, Damon; two brothers, John L. Watson and Thomas R. Watson and his wife, Nancy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her dog, Katie, who faithfully stayed by her side for over a decade.

WATSON - Friends and family of Beverly Anne Watson, who died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Jackie Grossman officiating.
