Hiroko Zang

Zang

Hiroko Zang, 76, of Butler, a survivor of the 1945 Hiroshima atomic bomb attack, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends, at her residence on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022. She fought a courageous battle against cancer.

Hiroko was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on Sept.15, 1945, just weeks after the catastrophic atomic bomb attack on the city.

She was employed for 23 years as a picker at Moonlight Mushrooms.

She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Hiroko was a member of Sakura Kai (Japanese Women’s Association), and she loved gardening, cooking, and karaoke parties.

She is survived by her husband, Robert A. Zang Sr., to whom she was married for 56 years; four children, Janet Krepps and her husband, Shawn, of Beaver County, Patricia Pearson and her husband, Matthew, of Butler, Tresia Zang and her significant other, Dan Gray, of Butler, and Robert A. Zang Jr. and his wife, Maura, of Wexford; five grandchildren, Austin Pearson, Chloe Zang, Jackson Zang, Trae Zang and Kai Zang; one sister, Ikue Kawashima of Japan; and one brother, Kadzuki Kawashima of Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

ZANG — There will be no visitation for Hiroko Zang, who died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022.

Private funeral services were held by the family, with burial taking place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
