Mercuri urges Wolf to help parents in crisis
Rep. Rob Mercuri, R-28th, wrote a letter asking Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration to implement a bill allowing parents to leave their child in the care of a hospital, police station or emergency medical services provider without criminal consequences.
House Bill 1139, or the Safe Haven Baby Policy, was made a law five years ago. Other colleagues joined Mercuri on approaching the Wolf administration to aid parents in crisis.
“The time is now to create a police pathway to enable this important legislation to create the hope and care for parents and families in crisis as designed,” Mercuri said in a press release. “We cannot, and must not, wait any longer.”
