Emergency responders are at the scene of a FedEx truck that rolled on its side into a creek in Middlesex Township at around 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Firefighters at the scene said they found a truck rolled over and down a hillside in a ditch off Deer Creek Road near its intersection with Leslie and Cherry Valley roads. The driver was able to exit the vehicle, and was transported by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for hypothermia.

Firefighters told dispatchers that the man reported no other injuries at the time.

The FedEx vehicle sustained damage to its front end and the motor was submerged in water during the accident. Crews are working to stop “hazardous waste” from traveling from the tributary into Bull Creek.

Sgt. Randy Davison of the Middlesex Township police said the FedEx truck was coming around a bend on Deer Creek Road when the driver went off the road. Once back on the road, he over corrected to swerve the truck to the other side of the road, swerved again and hit a tree. The truck then fell into the creek.

“He expects he was going 35 miles an hour,” Davison said. “He wasn’t wearing a seat belt so he fell into the water. He got out and was sitting on the vehicle when we arrived. He went for a real ride.”

Middlesex and Penn township police departments, Quality Ambulance Service, Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company and West Deer Township Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the call.

This is a developing story. More information will be added as it becomes available.
