Daniel Spear, a senior at Seneca Valley Senior High School, has been chosen for the 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

More than 5,000 U.S. high school seniors are selected for the program from the nearly 3.6 million who apply.

Scholars are selected for the program on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.

A panel of educators will select about 600 semifinalists in April.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of individuals appointed by President Joe Biden, will select the finalists and announce the scholars in May.
