Sonia Kowal, 76, of Lyndora, passed away, Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 22, 1946, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Frank Hilovsky and Sophie (Sawron) Hilovsky.

Sonia graduated from Butler High School, and had worked for the Butler County magistrate’s office. Following her retirement, she worked for First Nails in Butler.

She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, had belonged to their festival committee, and always helped with the cookie sale.

She was known for her excellent wedding soup recipe, and had enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Vinnie.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her nurse, Allison, in 6 Tower at Butler Memorial Hospital, for making Sonia’s last day peaceful and comfortable.

Surviving is her husband, Stanley J. Kowal, whom she married Nov. 5, 1966, at the former St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora.

She is also survived by one daughter, Roni (Ken) Lucas of Butler; one granddaughter, Natalie Lucas of Butler; and her brother, Frank (Linda) Hilovsky of Butler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Joan Bobby and Lillian Pastin.

KOWAL — Private services for Sonia Kowal, who died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, will be held for her family.

Arrangements were handled by GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
