Edward C. Gilliland
Edward C. Gilliland, 88, of Evans City, passed away at home on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021.
Born Sept. 20, 1933, in Connoquenessing, he was the son of the late Clare Gilliland and Ethel Lenz Gilliland.
Ed was a member at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, and served as a deacon, elder and trustee.
He was a self-employed farmer and worked the family farm on Welsh Road for his entire life. Ed's wish, which he realized, was to pass away on the family farm where he was born and where spent his life working.
He served on the Butler Agricultural Extension Association. Ed was a former board member of the Federal Land Bank. He was a member of the Butler Lodge 272 F&AM and a member of the A.A.S.R. — Valley of New Castle and Syria Shrine.
Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Beryl E. Sloan Bloom-Gilliland, whom he married on Jan. 1, 2000; his son, Caleb Cranmer; his stepchildren, Cynthia Kniess, Douglas Bloom and Edward Bloom; his five stepgrandchildren; his 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; his sister, Kay Burr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Crowe Gilliland, whom he married on Sept. 15, 1953, and who passed away on Sept. 5, 1998; and his sister, Evelyn M. Rader.
GILLILAND — A funeral service for Edward C. Gilliland, who died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Meridian, with Pastor Steve Franklin officiating.
Ed will be laid to rest at White Oak Springs Church Cemetery in Renfrew.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Meridian United Presbyterian Church.
