Several members of Mars Area High School Band were selected by solo audition for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District Band Festival held Jan. 27-28 at New Castle Junior/Senior High School.

The students who performed are senior Evan Rojas (tenor saxophone); juniors Ian Fuechslin (2nd chair oboe), Ethan Musler (tuba), and Andrew Nelson (1st chair bassoon); and, sophomores Meghan Smith (3rd chair clarinet) and Alex Schumann (2nd chair French horn). Bill Stowman, Messiah College music professor, served as guest conductor.

Several members of Mars Area High School and Mars Area Middle School Chorus were selected to perform at the PMEA Junior High District Chorus Festival held on Jan. 21 at Hopewell High School.

The students who performed are ninth-graders Jewelie Baker, Amelia Collins and Isabella Gillette; and eighth-graders Riley Carrel, Elizabeth Kelly, Aubree Machi, Tayla Noorda and Kiara Van Wyk. Ryan Keeling, West Liberty University director of choral activities, and Erich Lascek, Gateway High School choral director, served as guest conductors.
