Butler grad Kutchma gets academic honor

CLARION — Butler graduate Gabby Kutchma, a member of the Clarion University cross country team, has been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2021 All-Academic team.

Kutchma is carrying a 4.0 grade point average as a Nutrition and Fitness major.

Schnur ranked first in AMCC volleyball

ERIE — Butler graduate Cody Schnur and Penn State Behrend senior men’s volleyball middle hitter Cody Schnur leads the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in hitting percentage.

Schnur has a .485 hitting percentage. He registered a team-best 12 kills in a recent match against Arcadia.

SR resident Brown scores 19-1 upset

WASHINGTON, Pa.— Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown guided Dontholdanythinbak to victory against 19-1 odds during harness racing action Friday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The 4-year-old gelding won a $10,300 Conditioned Pace, increasing his lifetime bankroll to $108,102.

SRU second baseman earns All-America

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University second baseman Jon Kozarian has been named to the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America team. He was named second team.

Kozarian hit .421 last season with 34 runs, six homers, 28 RBI and seven stolen bases. He led the PSAC in batting average and ranked second with 17 doubles and 51 hits.

SRU finished 23-14 laast year and is scheduled to open the 2022 season March 5 with a doubleheader vs. Davis & Elkins at Critchfield Park.
