Manuel A. Marquez, 93, passed away at the Butler VA Medical Center on Jan. 15, 2022.

Born in Corcoran, Calif., in 1928, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946. During his service, he was deployed for the Allied Occupation of Germany, was a Korean War combat veteran, was deployed for a second tour in Germany during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and was a Vietnam era veteran. He retired from the Army in 1968.

He moved to Morgantown, W.Va., to work for the nascent public broadcasting system at West Virginia University. While there, he completed his B.A. degree. He later moved to Atlanta, Ga., where he was a chief television engineer at TV channel 46, and ultimately went into business for himself.

Manuel was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; and his son, Manuel Jr., a U.S. Marine veteran.

He is survived by his sister, Antonia, and a brother, Joseph, both of California; a son, Richard of Georgia; a son, Larry, and his wife, Jane, of New York; and a daughter, Margie and her husband, Philip, of Pennsylvania.

He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Krissie, Leslie, James, Phillip, Richard and Catherine; and his great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Butler VA Community Living Center and the hospice care team.

MARQUEZ — A blessing service for Manuel A. Marquez, who died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, with the Rev. James Murphy officiating.

Burial will be in Georgia.
