Henry Gizienski

Gizienski

Henry “Rock” Gizienski of Saxonburg, passed away on Jan. 27, 2022.

Henry was born on July 11, 1949, to his parents, John and Cecilia.

After high school, Henry wanted to attend college to major in engineering. If he had a vision, he could bring that vision to life. However, he was drafted into the Vietnam War at the age of 19. Within those years, he became a man of courage and of strength. He was a platoon sergeant in the First Infantry Division and a decorated veteran. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Medal, Purple Heart and others during his service. He saved many peoples’ lives. He was a hero to his country and his family.

When he returned home, he met the love of his life, Christina L. Colligan. They were married April 24, 1971.

His family was his entire world. Surviving are his sons, Sean (Kristie) Gizienski and Jesse (Sheri Heim) Gizienski, both of Saxonburg.

He is also survived by his brothers, John “Butch” (Linda) Gizienski and Francis “Jim” (Laura) Gizienski; his five granddaughters, Alyssa (Kaleb) Dietz, Kayleigh, Bailey, Carlie and Jerzie; one great-granddaughter, Tilly; his mother-in-law, Peggy Colligan; and five brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christina, who died Dec. 31, 2020; his brother, Larry; his sister, Cecilia “Cookie”; and his father-in-law, James Colligan.

He loved his family with his whole heart, as well as his dog, Angus, and his nine kitties.

He enjoyed his camp in Mount Jewett, Pa., hunting, the beach at the Outer Banks, N.C., his renewed love of golf and teaching others.

His legacy will be forever remembered. He was humble and kind, and genuinely had a heart of gold.
