Darl Beer

Beer

Darl L. "Dutch" "Shorty" Beer, 90, of Buffalo Township, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, peacefully at his home while surrounded by his family.

Darl was born in Natrona Heights, on Sept. 11, 1931, and was a son of the late Mary Hoover and James Beer.

He was the widower of R. Leona (Steele) Beer, who passed in 2018.

He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Natrona Heights.

He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from 1952 to 1954.

He was employed by DuCo Ceramics for 25 years. As owner and founder of Dynamic Ceramics for 42 years, he knew his greatest assets were his employees, and he did his best to treat them as family.

His greatest love was for Christ, his wife Leona, and spending time and enjoying his family. He was a simple man, who lived modestly but gave generously. Helping and loving others brought him extreme joy!

Dutch delighted in traveling in his motor home with his brother, Jim and Vivian Beer, and friends, Jim and Connie Waddell. He was kind, gentle, quick witted, mischievous and tough as they come.

He and Leona were known to have an open door policy—no matter the day, time or occasion. As the self-appointed "mayor of Doyle Road," he often entertained his neighbors with fireworks, waterslides and many other shenanigans.

Darl is survived by his son, Terry (Jeannette) Beer of Buffalo Township; two daughters, Darla (George) McWilliams of Buffalo Township, and Melanie (late Tom) Waddell of South Buffalo Township; his grandchildren, Melissa (Zachariah), Justin (Heidi), Amanda (Timothy), Michael (Micaela), Matthew (Rebekah), Aaron (Kayla), Jerrica (Misael), David (Deborah), and Tia; his great-grandchildren, Sarah, Hunter, GiGi, Dessie, Lydia, Isaac, Hallie, Julian, Lilah, Ada, Aaron Jr., Asa, Aadyn, Arkyn, Alistar, Margaret, plus one, and Elianna.

Darl is also survived by six sisters, Charlotte Gruber, Nancy Kolek, Doris Doerr, Joyce Bastin, Pamela Goldstrom and Barbara Beer; and his brothers, Donald and Jerry Beer.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Sammy and Mary Hoover; his father and stepmother, James and Florence Beer; his brothers, James and Neil Beer; and his sister, Marilyn Vollmer.
