Lonnie Watson

Lonnie Glen Watson, 86, of Somerset, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Jan. 20, 2022.

He was the son of the late Lonnie Glen and Madeline V. (Rush) Watson.

Lonnie was born Aug. 10, 1935, in Morgantown, W.Va.

After attending Morgantown High School, Lonnie served as a sergeant of the 2nd Marine Air Wing of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955.

He was owner of several news agencies in the Pittsburgh area, and was also a business owner in Somerset County.

He attended Somerset Alliance Church.

First and foremost, Lonnie greatly enjoyed and loved his family! Not only was he a member of many local clubs, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and competitive shooter. Lonnie rode and competed in the American Quarter Horse Congress, having loved horseback riding. His dogs, Sasha and Button, provided much companionship.

Lonnie is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Ringer). They shared 35 years of the joys and trials of life, as well as the following surviving family, a son, John (Shelly) Watson of Mars, and daughter, Laura (Eric) King of Rockwood, Pa.; grandchildren, Gunnar, Ruby and Bruce L. Watson of Mars, Derek (Nikki) King of Somerset, Kimberly (Brad) Glessner of Manns Choice, Pa., and Amanda King of Wellersburg, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Myla Glessner, and Easton King; his mother-in-law, Patsy Ringer of Somerset; John's mother, Marilyn Watson of Mars; and his brother-in-law, Dick (Charlene) Ringer of Rockwood.

He is also survived by a niece, Michelle (William) Neiderhiser and children, Nathan and Merril, his niece, Carla (Daniel) Harrold and children, Kayla, Joshua, Julia and Briella, and his niece, Alicia (Michael) Miller; and his nephew, Quincy (Kim) Hochard and children, Madelyn and Jack.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce H. Watson, who was of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Billy Ogline, who was of Rockwood; and his father-in-law, Carl Ringer, who was of Rockwood.

WATSON — Friends of Lonnie Glen Watson, who died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at HAUGER-ZEIGLER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, Somerset.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Somerset Alliance Church, Somerset, where a service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Scott Ream officiating.

Interment will be held in Somerset County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Lonnie's memory be made to Somerset Alliance Church, 708 Stoystown Road, Somerset, PA 15501, or the Humane Society of Somerset, P.O. Box 182, Somerset, PA 15501.
