Humane society gets free window cleaning

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Although the chances are slim to none that recently-deceased comedienne Betty White has been anywhere near Butler County, she continues to support animals at the county humane society.

The Butler County Humane Society exceeded its goal of $20,000 in donations for the Betty White challenge, in which pet lovers were asked to make donations to the facility Jan. 17, which would have been White’s 100th birthday.

White, who died Dec. 31, was an animal lover throughout her life.

On Friday, Fish Window Cleaning of Center Township chose the county humane society as the recipient of its annual Random Act of Kindness Campaign.

Shawn E. Arnold, operations manager at Fish, said the exterior of all windows and doors outside of the fenced-in portion of the facility would receive a professional scrubbing.

Employees Lucas Redick and Justin Currie set to work late Friday morning, shining all the windows on the front of the Helen Spaide Albig building at the humane society.

Arnold chose the facility for Fish’s 2022 Random Act of Kindness Campaign.

“Betty White had a lifelong commitment to animal rescue, so I said, ‘How about the humane society?’” Arnold said. “I chose them because I know (window cleaning) is not in their budget, and they rely on volunteers and donations year-round to continue operating.”

He said the cleaning would have cost the humane society about $75.

“They have more important things to use their budget on,” Fish said as dogs could be heard barking in the background.

Megan Barber, kennel manager at the humane society, said everyone who works to care for the animals waiting for adoption is grateful that Fish Window Cleaning chose them for its annual donation of services.

“These big companies thinking about the nonprofits, it’s definitely heart warming and we really appreciate it,” Barber said. “It’s so nice of them.”
