Wilbur C. Nelson, 93, of Zelienople, passed away on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community.

Born Feb. 5, 1928, in Bessemer, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Nelson and Iva Mae Hoffmeister Nelson.

Wilbur was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

He was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, where he served as a member of session, deacon, elder and trustee.

He was a lifelong public school educator, teaching math at Zelienople High School and Seneca Valley Senior High School. He also coached the high school basketball team. He retired in 1986 after teaching for 36 years.

He was a former trustee of the Zelienople Public Library and Butler County Federated Library System.

Wilbur will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the community that he served.

Wilbur leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother, Glenn F. Nelson of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; his brother-in-law, Arthur Kuhel of Mesa, Ariz.; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne M. Kuhel Nelson, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1953, and who passed away on Aug. 23, 2002.

NELSON — Friends of Wilbur C. Nelson, who died Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvin Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. A. David Paul officiating.

Wilbur will be laid to rest at the Zelienople Community Mausoleum in Zelienople.

Donations may be made in honor of Wilbur to Calvin Presbyterian Church, 415 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063, or to the Zelienople Public Library, 227 S. High St., Zelienople, PA 16063.
