John Stine

John Clair “Bud” Stine, 94, of Butler, formerly of West Liberty, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Sunnyview Home in Butler.

He was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Brady Township, Butler County, to John Clair Stine and Jane Lindey Stine. He was raised by his grandparents, Louis and Jane Lindey.

He attended Slippery Rock High School.

He married Eleanor Mae Mayer on May 29, 1951, in a wedding held at the bride's home in West Liberty borough.

He was in the National Guard for two years, from 1950 until 1952, serving in the 112th Medical Company 29th Division, and served five months in Germany.

Bud worked 22 years for Braun Baking in Butler, before retiring in 1989.

He was a member of West Liberty Methodist Church.

He lived most of his life in West Liberty before moving to Grove City. He enjoyed living in his apartment and making new friends, who also lived there.

John and Eleanor spent all of their time together after his retirement. They enjoyed traveling and eating out at different restaurants. For the last four years, they lived in Butler, and enjoyed sitting on their front porch and taking care of flowers.

John enjoyed gardening, and always shared the produce he grew with family and neighbors. He enjoyed picking berries. He loved to landscape, and spent numerous hours landscaping around his home. He always kept his lawn looking beautiful.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor at home; his son, Larry J. Stine of Butler; his daughter, Susan J. (Rocci) Ravella of Leetonia, Ohio; two grandsons, Nicholas (Steffaney) Stine of Butler, and Devin Stine of Naples, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Harley, Dominic and Bryce Stine.

STINE — The family of John Clair “Bud” Stine, who died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Lewis presiding.

Interment will be in West Liberty Cemetery.
