Richard Komstock

Richard Komstock, 66, of Butler, died on Dec. 2, 2021, after a brief illness.

Born in Butler, to Peter G. and Margaret E. (Powers) Komstock, Richard attended St. Paul School and, along with his twin brother, Robert, served as an altar boy at St. Paul Church.

He then attended St. Fidelis, before graduating from Butler High School in 1973.After high school, he attended Butler County Community College, making many lifelong friends. Pittsburgh Beauty Academy came next, and he went on to become a well-liked hairdresser at the Vidal Sassoon Salon in Station Square in Pittsburgh.In 1982, Rich enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was most proud of his time spent as a paratrooper in the 82 Airborne.After the Army, Rich moved to Bristol, Pa., and completed his bachelor's degree, graduating from Holy Family University in 1991. He then traveled north and enjoyed life in Rhode Island, where he worked as an emergency room technician.His final years brought him back to Butler, where he reconnected with good friends, and enjoyed spending time with them, and his time at the American Legion.Rich's passion was to enjoy life, fun, love and laughter, and sharing these with the many people in his life.Rich was deeply appreciative of the friendship of Mike Green and his wife, Cissy, and Patti Sterlit, all of who in his last months provided food, fun, support, and the warm love and comfortable understanding that comes with time and the years spent with each other. Patti and Mike Selfridge loved him the longest, and shared their home, their family, their pumpkins and their Christmases. Over the decades, they became his trusted and much-loved family.His niece and nephew, Heidi Friel and Brian Kurtz, were a true and continual part of his life and good times, and they always claimed a big piece of his heart and interests.Simply put by his cousin, Mark, “Rich always brought a smile.”Rich is survived by his sisters, Virginia Kurtz of Pittsburgh and Carol Komstock of Riverside, R.I.Rich never met a dog he didn't dote on, as he had a lifelong love for all four-legged friends.KOMSTOCK — A Mass of Christian burial for Richard Komstock, who died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, will be celebrated in his honor at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.Arrangements are under the direction of GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, Butler.Rich will be happy to know that a large get-together will be held in the months to come for friends and family.In his honor, it is requested that his dog and cat friends receive a special hug, and that any memorial donations be made to the Butler County Humane Society.For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
