Fire destroys wood-burner shed in Butler Twp.
A fire destroyed a wood-burner shed in the backyard of a home at 108 S. Woodlawn Road in Butler Township early Saturday.
The Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, the Butler Department Of Veterans Affairs Fire Department and Butler Ambulance responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m.
Chief Kevin Smith, of Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, said no one was injured and the home was not damaged, but that the shed was “pretty much destroyed.” He estimated the damage to be $10,000.
“It was actually a 25-by-25-foot building with one of those outdoor wood burners. It was basically his woodshed,” Smith said. “He had all of the wood in there to run that wood burner, probably six to 10 cords of wood.”
Smith said that wood- burner fires tend to be more common in the winter and advised those with wood burners to keep safety in mind.
