James R. Purvis

James R. Purvis, 94, of Harmony, passed away on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, while under the care of The Grove at Harmony.

Born Oct. 23, 1927, at Koppel, he was the son of the late James R. and Marion Purvis.

Jim proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler, coached baseball, and especially enjoyed camping. After he retired from his career as a truck driver, he drove ambulance for Harmony EMS, and he was a longtime volunteer for the Harmony Fire Department. Above all, Jim loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Bernice Bintrim Purvis, whom he married Nov. 8, 1952; his son, Kenneth (Caroline) Purvis; his five grandchildren, Mandy (Heath) Fox, Hope Young, Crystal Shultz, and Cody and Ryan Purvis; and his six great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Purvis; and his sister, Madilyn McCarthy.Purvis — Friends of James R. Purvis, who died Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. Dan Owen officiating.Jim will be laid to rest with military honors at Grace Church Cemetery in Harmony.Memorial donations may be made in Jim's honor to the Harmony Fire Department, 543 Main St., Harmony, PA 16037, or to Harmony EMS, 102 Mennonite Lane, Harmony, PA 16037.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
