Wood burner may have sparked Cherry Twp. fire

A structure fire in Cherry Township on Tuesday night destroyed a car and damaged parts of a detached garage.

Multiple crews responded to the fire at 307 Hungarian Road shortly before 10 p.m.

“It was a three-stall garage and started in the wood burner area,” Fire Chief Ryan Hanchosky of Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. said.

“We had it contained to around the wood burner area and most of the attic area, but we were able to save, I would say, 80% of his stuff.”

No injuries were reported at the scene, and a damage estimate was not available.

Other volunteer fire companies responding to the call were West Sunbury, Unionville, Marion Township, Clintonville and Harrisville. Slippery Rock Ambulance also was on scene.
