Woman rescued from SUV in Sullivan Run
A woman was rescued from a vehicle shortly after noon Wednesday after the SUV she was driving went into Sullivan Run on Pillow Street behind the Medicine Shoppe.
According to Capt. Jim Kaufman of the Butler Fire Bureau, the accident occurred because the driver, a woman in her mid-70s, thought the vehicle was in drive.
“She had it in reverse instead of drive,” Kaufman said. “She wasn't hurt, she was able to help us.”
The vehicle, a Subaru Forester, fell over the embankment into the stream. A ladder truck was placed in the parking lot of the former Huddle Restaurant and Lounge on West Cunningham Street, and firefighters were lowered next to the vehicle to rescue the driver.
Kaufman said they had to break the back window of the vehicle to extract the woman, who was uninjured. She was assisted into the ladder truck and later examined by EMS responders.
She was the only passenger in the SUV.
Butler City Police and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene. A tow truck was called to pull the vehicle from the water. The back end of the vehicle had minor damage.
The woman's name was not immediately available.
