VOICe in need of donations

Seasonal items, clothing sought

The Cranberry Township location of VOICe is seeking donations of clothing and items to brighten up the winter this holiday season.

VOICe, the Victim Outreach Intervention Center, provides aid and assistance to individuals and families who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes.

“We ask for anything seasonal in the way of clothing,” said Taylor Adams, a shelter advocate at the Cranberry location. “We don't take any big furniture, but puzzles and games and anything like that, I am sure we could use.”

During regular months, VOICe holds donation days on the last Thursday of the month. During November and December, no official donation days are scheduled, but the shelter is still in need, Adams said.

“In November and December, we don't get those clothes donations like we do every month normally,” she said. “We don't have a lot of bigger-sized clothing in the way of coats and shirts, so that would be something we would be looking for.”

Adams said that food donations for the shelter's food pantry are not currently needed.

“We have a pantry that is a little overflowing at the moment, so we are pretty good in the way of food,” she said. “It's a good problem to have, and we like getting those food donations like meat and things like that, but we have a lot of cans, tons of pasta and breakfast stuff.”

Earlier in December, the Cranberry Sunrise Rotary gathered a gift through Operation Warm for VOICe, bringing a number of donated winter coats to the shelter. Each winter, the Cranberry Sunrise Rotary donates coats to non-profits in need.“We've been working with VOICe for many years now, trying to help them with supplies and things they need,” said Jack Cohen, past president of the Cranberry Sunrise Rotary and Rotary district governor-elect. “Unfortunately, they are an extremely busy organization. We help with getting jackets for children and getting those things that people need.“Anything that VOICe needs, we go and find for them. Sometimes, it's just money just to keep the facilities running.”Cohen said the Rotary has donated hundreds of coats over the past few years.“When there's a need, that's what the Rotary does. We serve the community,” he said. “That's the fun part about Rotary. They are an organization that understands the needs of their communities and the world. We're all here to serve.”
