Walter J. Powell
Walter J. “Jim” Powell, 71, of Brackenridge, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.
He was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Natrona Heights, and was the son of the late William and Orpha (Blystone) Powell.
Jim lived most of his life in Brackenridge. He was a welder for 30 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in Brackenridge.Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam era, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps.He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, St. Joseph Church in Natrona. He was also a former Scout leader.Jim graduated in 1968 from Har-Brack High School.He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed traveling, and his pastime of sitting on his porch drinking coffee. Jim especially enjoyed his family, children and most of all his grandchildren.Survivors include his children, James M. (Kelly) Powell of Fawn Township, Amy R. (Michael) Baer of West Kittanning, Keith A. (Camilla) Powell of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Michael J. (Emily) Powell of Saxonburg; and 10 grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Ann (Vertosick) Powell, who passed away in 2020; his brothers, Louis, Richard, William and Donald Powell; and his sisters, Betty Jones, Diana Kendall, Shirley Hoak and Alice Sample.POWELL — Visitation for Walter J. “Jim” Powell, who died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at Duster Funeral Home, 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum.Allegheny Valley Marine Corps League will hold services at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at the funeral home.A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.Burial with military honors will be held in Mount Airy Mausoleum, Natrona Heights.At the request of the family, masks are required.Please visit www.dusterfh.com.
