Moniteau appoints officers

Moniteau School District's board had its reorganizational meeting Wednesday, during which Michael Panza and Joann Duke were reappointed to the positions of board president and vice president, respectively.

District Superintendent Aubrie Schnelle said the board also recognized outgoing member Trixie Heck, who served her last meeting Wednesday.

The board swore in the reelected members Panza, Duke and Linda Dillaman as well as new member Bryan Sack, who will take Heck's seat.

The state Supreme Court's order Friday throwing out the mask mandate means the district will move to recommending masks immediately.

Schnelle said Friday that the district was originally going to implement this plan Jan. 17, when control of mask mandates were to be handed back to local school districts.

Schnelle said the district's health and safety plan will be the guide for the rest of the year, so the board doesn't need to take official action on the policy unless more guidance comes from the state.

“Nothing has changed for us,” Schnelle said. “Depending on what we hear from the state and what our solicitor's recommendations are, we would fall back into our original health and safety plan.”
