Butler Twp. could change meeting schedule

BUTLER TWP — Commissioners voted at a Monday meeting to keep the same meeting schedule for 2022, with commissioner meetings every first and third Monday and planning commission meetings the first Tuesday of the month.

The commissioners are considering making the first meeting of the month an agenda-setting or workshop meeting, and township manager Tom Knights said they will discuss the possibility further and vote to advertise the meeting schedule at their Dec. 20 meeting.

The township has canceled a few meetings recently, usually the first one of the month, because of a lack of agenda items according to Knights.

“In the past we have had agenda meetings, there is some talk that you guys want to have agenda meetings again,” said Commission President Dave Zarnick. “The other thing we did, we met at 7 in the morning. That worked for a little bit and then it seemed like it died off, so we'll discuss it.”

Township solicitor Rebecca Black said commissioners can amend the schedule, but the meetings are required to be properly advertised.

Commissioners also tweaked the proposed 2022 budget at a special meeting Nov. 29.

Knights said there still is no tax increase proposed, a carryover from the initial Nov. 4 budget workshop, but the overall budget increased from about $7.8 million to $7,948,892.

According to Knights, the township's need for some new equipment resulted in the budget adjustments, and it is typical to make adjustments before the final vote.

Knights said police need in the township can be constantly shifting.

“All of the departments' requests were funded,” he said. “There was a handful of revenue changes, fortunately they are to the positive.”

The commissioners will vote on the budget at the Dec. 20 meeting.
