State police will perform added DUI enforcement through the holiday weekend.
The department announced the efforts in a statement Wednesday.
“The checkpoints and enforcement will be conducted on roadways determined to be problematic with DUI offenses in order to safeguard motorists traveling through Butler County,” the statement said.
In Pennsylvania, a driver with a blood alcohol content of .08% and above is considered intoxicated.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has noted a trend in and around the Thanksgiving holiday, including “Black Wednesday.”
According to government records, between 2015 and 2019, 135 drivers involved in fatal crashes on Thanksgiving Eve were alcohol-impaired, and over the entire holiday period nearly 800 people died as a result of alcohol-related crashes.
