Moniteau updating math curriculum

Moniteau School District is in the process of updating its elementary math curriculum.

Moniteau superintendent Aubrie Schnelle said the school board viewed a presentation at Monday's meeting regarding options for a new curriculum, which had input from the elementary schools' math teachers.

The last time the curriculum was updated was 2017, according to Schnelle.

“They did a new process this year where teachers created a rubric along with administrators to look at options,” Schnelle said. “All of our math and special education teachers listened to four different companies about curriculum options.”

The new curriculum would be implemented next school year, once approved by the school board, Schnelle said. She also said the current favorite option of the teachers is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, but no decision has been made as of yet.

In other business, Schnelle congratulated the district's decathlon team for doing well at a tournament Nov. 13. She said about 150 high school students from 11 different schools came to Moniteau to compete, and two district students, Logan Campbell and Cody Brown, placed highly at the competition.

Campbell earned a gold medal in scholastic literature, and Brown earned the highest overall varsity score. The district's super quiz team took second place in its competition as well.
