Richard W. Stoeltzing

Richard S. Stoeltzing, 93, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, with his wife and family by his side.

Richard was born May 4, 1928, grew up in Greentree, attended Dormont High School for three years, and then graduated from Mercersburg Academy. He went on to graduate from Lehigh University with a bachelor's in engineering physics and then earned his master's of science in physics from Penn State University.

Richard was a longtime employee of Westinghouse, where he developed and patented the “Proximity Sensing Device” for elevators.

Richard had a love for music, demonstrated by his participation in the barbershop quartet, his ability to play many musical, instruments and his seat on the Board of Directors for the Pittsburgh Opera. He was also a talented magician, book collector, dog lover and handyman.

Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy (Shields) Stoeltzing; his stepdaughter, Janice Yeo; and stepson, Timothy Berry.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Adele; and his grandchildren, Rachel (Berry) Flick, Lori (Berry) Wick, Stephanie (Yeo) Fleming, Kristen Yeo and Logan Yeo.

His is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Tony, Grace, Eian, Kyle, Aria and Owen.

STOELTZING — Arrangements for Richard S. Stoeltzing, who died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, are under the direction of Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Pittsburgh.

Interment held in Chartiers Cemetery will be private.
