Butler Twp. commissioners to consider budget
BUTLER TWP — The board of commissioners will have a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29 to potentially propose the 2022 budget.
Commission president Dave Zarnick said the discussion at the meeting may lead to a vote to officially propose the budget. The township could have the final vote at its Dec. 20 meeting.
“We have to have it done by Dec. 31,” Zarnick said. “We've got to watch the dates ... We can make a vote in that time frame and have it done by the end of the year.”
The township commissioners had a special meeting to review the preliminary budget Nov. 4, where department leaders went over the projected costs they expect to incur in 2022, and compared them to the township's expected revenues.
As proposed at the Nov. 4 meeting, the 2022 budget does not call for a tax increase for residents, according to township manager Tom Knights. The budget calls for no increase in spending from the zoning department, according to zoning officer Jesse Hines. Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said he tried to keep his department's budget as low as possible. His 2022 budget request came out to about $2.8 million.
Zarnick said he doesn't expect to see many changes to the previously discussed budget.
Township assistant manager Cheryl McNeill said the commissioners will use the special meeting to extrapolate on the prior discussion on the budget, and possibly take input from residents if they attend. They will also have more information available.
“Some figures were not available to us when we did the proposed budget,” McNeill said.
