Shirley Hilliard
Shirley Marie Hilliard, 90, of Butler, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021.
Born June 7, 1931, in Butler, she was the daughter of Harry Watterson and Gladys Huselton Watterson.
Shirley graduated from Butler High School in 1949. She often shared fond memories about being on the high school girls basketball team, and her time with the Meridian Woodpeckers Fife and Drum Corps.
Shirley worked at Offetts, Troutman's and Montgomery Ward.
She married David Hilliard on June 18, 1951, and she lived in many of the ports where David was stationed while he was in the Navy. Shirley was blessed to enjoy her 70th wedding anniversary and her 90th birthday this past June.
Shirley was a member of Meridian Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and helped in volunteer activities of the church. She enjoyed roller skating and dancing, and was a charter member of the Keystone Squares in Butler.
Shirley loved to travel and had been in most every state in the country. She was active in the scouts when her boys were younger. Shirley loved taking her grandchildren to parks.
Shirley is survived by her husband, David Hilliard; her sons, Randall (Jennifer) Hilliard and Kevin (Susan) Hilliard; her grandson, Michael Hilliard; her granddaughter, Melissa (Justin Liebler) Hilliard; and her great-grandson, Austin Maire.
She is also survived by her sister, Gayle (Willard) Pollock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her grandson, Phillip Hilliard; and her brother, George Watterson.
HILLIARD — A viewing for Shirley Marie Hilliard, who died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Meridian.
A service will immediately follow at the church in the sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. Steve Franklin officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
